Nus Ghani has welcomed the recent announcement by the Big Lottery Fund that they are providing £17,810 of funding for three community projects in Wealden.
The Big Lottery Fund, using money raised by National Lottery players, supports community projects across the country that boost life skills, self-esteem and confidence of the people who take part.
In Wealden, the fund is supporting projects in Hailsham, Mayfield and Chiddingly.
Gallery North, based in Hailsham, are running a Community Commissioned, Created and Exhibited art project, with students working with older people to create and commission works for an exhibition focussing on their memories and experiences. Gallery North are receiving £10,000 of lottery funding.
MAYFACS (Mayfield & Five Ashes Community Services) are running a Life Stories project, which will deliver an intergenerational storytelling programme, where younger and older people come together to tell the stories of their lives. £4,310 of funding has been provided by the National Lottery.
Chiddingly Primary School’s Growing and Sensory Garden project will receive £3,500 of lottery funding. The garden will purchase and install raised beds to create a garden area for pupils and the wider community, improving their outdoor space.
Commenting on the funding, Ms Ghani said: “Community projects do extraordinary things for our towns and villages across Wealden.
“Local groups like Gallery North and MAYFACS do wonderful work in our communities, encouraging people to come together and try something new.
“It’s also great to see Chiddingly Primary School taking the initiative to improve their community, and the National Lottery supporting their creativity.
“I raised National Lottery funding for local charities in the House of Commons Chamber just before Christmas, specifically how they support small, rural organisations. I’m very pleased to see the National Lottery reaffirm their commitment to supporting some of the most rural communities in Wealden.
