Holy Cross Church of England Primary School in Uckfield has been awarded £70,000 of funding from the Diocese of Chichester, following Wealden MP Nus Ghani writing to the Director of the Diocese.
In her letter of support, Nus Ghani encouraged the Diocese of Chichester to back Holy Cross’ proposed refurbishment programme. Proposed refurbishments included replacing external windows and doors, refurbishing toilets and repairing internal fire doors.
The Diocese of Chichester is funding Holy Cross’ refurbishment programme through the Diocesan Board of Education and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “It’s wonderful news that the representations I made to the Diocese of Chichester has paid off for Holy Cross Primary School.
“I visited Holy Cross earlier this year, and I saw first-hand how the inspirational and dedicated teachers provide an engaging learning environment for their students.
“However, some areas of the school ground are in need of refurbishment, and the generous donation from the Diocese of Chichester will go a long way.
“The Diocese of Chichester has a strong record of supporting and nurturing schools across the region, and I am delighted that they are backing Wealden schools in this way.”
Mrs Cathy Dart, Holy Cross Headteacher, said: “We are delighted to have received £70,000 from the Diocese of Chichester for essential maintenance to our school. This much-needed money will be used for important improvements to the fabric of our lovely Church school.
“Following on from Nus’ visit to Holy Cross, I’d like to thank Nus for demonstrating her support for the school and backing our bid for Diocesan funding.
“We are very grateful to the Diocese for their continued deep commitment to and investment in Holy Cross. We are fortunate as a voluntary aided school to come under the care of the Diocese, who has shown a great deal of support to the school over the years.
“This funding will future proof our school building to ensure Holy Cross is in a position to provide first class education for the new generation of Uckfield families.”
