Speaking in the House of Commons, Nus Ghani congratulated Beacon Academy in Crowborough on its stellar results, after it was named as the best school in East Sussex. This year, Beacon Academy’s exam exceptional performance put it in the top 3 per cent of schools in the country.
The new head teacher, Anna Robinson, has only been in the role for two years, but in that time she has taken the school to the top of the league tables.
The school received its best ever A-Level results this year, with over 20 per cent of pupils gaining an A or A* in their exams. More than 75 per cent of Beacon Academy leavers secured a place at university, many of whom headed to prestigious Russell Group Universities this autumn.
Securing the best school in East Sussex status has generated huge pride and parental choice in education provision in Crowborough and across Wealden.
Commenting on the issue, Ms Ghani said: “All of the students, teachers and support staff at Beacon Academy should be incredibly proud of this tremendous achievement. Beacon Academy fosters close relationships between staff and students and their shared ambition shows in their exam results.
I was delighted that the Minister of State for Schools, the Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, joined me in congratulating the staff and students at Beacon Academy in the Chamber this week. Beacon Academy is a shining example of how this Government’s education policies enable children to reach their full potential.
I will continue to work hard, on behalf of all of the schools in Wealden, in order to ensure that our children receive the education they deserve.”
