Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, convened a successful local NHS leaders forum and visited Crowborough War Memorial Hospital and Uckfield Community Hospital to champion health facilities in Wealden.

Nusrat was accompanied by Mike Jennings, Chief Executive Officer at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, who manage Crowborough Minor Injuries Unit and Uckfield Community Hospital; Miles Scott, Chief Executive Officer at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, who manage the Crowborough birth centre; Claudia Griffith, Chief Delivery Officer at NHS Sussex; leader of Wealden District Council Ann Newton; and Cllr Richard Hallett MBE, Vice President and Trustee of the Friends of Crowborough Hospital.

After a tour of the facilities, Nusrat was keen to discuss health services available to Wealden residents, opportunities for expansion of healthcare provision in the area to enhance local treatment and release pressure on neighbouring hospitals, and support for the Crowborough Birthing Unit and Minor Injuries Unit to prevent any temporary closures in the future.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I was delighted to convene a meeting with local NHS leaders to visit the fantastic facilities in Crowborough and Uckfield and discuss the delivery of primary care and emergency services in Wealden. The Crowborough and Uckfield Minor Injuries Units are key services for our local communities, helping to relieve the pressure on A&E departments in nearby hospitals. The Crowborough birthing centre is an important and enriching local service for parents-to-be, enabling more choice and support throughout pregnancy and childbirth. I would like to thank the Friends of Crowborough Hospital for their continued support for the service, and to all local NHS leaders, medical staff and volunteers across all health services in Wealden for their continued superb work delivering care for Wealden residents.”
