Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, visited Hawkes Farm Academy in Hailsham to congratulate the staff and leadership team on their latest Ofsted report.

Hawkes Farm Academy is part of the STEP Academy Trust established in 2011. The school, which is currently providing education to 340 children aged 4 to 11, underwent an Ofsted inspection in November. The subsequent report found the Academy to be ‘Good’ across all areas, highlighting the schools’ positive community atmosphere, happy and nurturing environment, and caring relationships between adults and pupils.

Nusrat visited the Academy to meet the Head Teacher Mrs Miskelly and see first-hand the provision of a safe, high-quality learning environment for children to thrive and develop. Nusrat also met pupil representatives of each year group for a Q&A session on her work and duties as Member of Parliament for Sussex Weald and Chairman of Ways and Means, Madam Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Hawkes Farm Academy is a fantastic school, and it was lovely to meet with a group of wonderful students who were keen to learn more about the ins and outs of the processes in the House of Commons Chamber and let me know what local issues matter the most to them and their families. I am pleased about the positive outcome of the school’s latest inspection, which is a great testament to the hard work of the staff and leadership team, and their ambition to continue providing the best possible education to Hailsham students and to be an exceptional and supportive learning hub.”

Hawkes Farm Academy Head Teacher, Mrs Miskelly said: “Hawkes Farm Academy were delighted to host a visit with Nusrat. It was a great opportunity to be able to celebrate our positive Ofsted report and showcase the learning environment and behaviours of our pupils. The pupils who met with Nusrat very much enjoyed the chance to ask questions about her role as an MP, her passions and priorities.  Nusrat very kindly shared some interesting parliament documents, which we all found fascinating.”
