Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has recently held a drop-in surgery with the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, to discuss concerns regarding rural crime and advocate for more resources.

The event, which took place at Crowborough Police Station was an opportunity for local residents and businesses to raise individual concerns around local policing, including rural crime, increase in shoplifting incidents from local supermarkets, anti-social behaviour, illegal parking and road safety.

Rural crime remains one of the biggest concerns for local residents and following ongoing work with Sussex Police and several meetings regarding policing with communities in Hailsham and Withyham, Nusrat also recently raised her concerns about organised rural crime and theft of equipment for the purpose of international resale at BBC Politics South East.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I was pleased to welcome our Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne to Crowborough and I’m grateful to all local residents, who joined us at the drop-in surgery to have their concerns about shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and local policing heard and addressed. I am in regular contact with Sussex Police and continue working with our Wealden Neighbourhood Policing Team and Rural Crime Team on what more can be done to prevent and tackle crime. Rural crime is one of the top concerns for local residents and I continue putting the case forward for more resources and police visibility to ensure that Sussex Weald residents continue to feel safe in their communities.”
