Carers Centre Uckfield

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, was pleased to visit the new Carers Centre based at Victoria Pavilion in Uckfield to learn more about the work that Care for the Carers do to support unpaid carers in Wealden and across East Sussex.

It is estimated that there are 69,241 unpaid carers in East Sussex, with nearly 20,000 in Wealden. Care for the Carers is an independent charity commissioned by East Sussex County Council and the NHS to provide support and services to unpaid carers across the county, such as referrals to other local services, outreach support, one-to-one crisis help and guidance, coaching, training, wellbeing and support groups, activities and counselling.

The Uckfield Carers Centre was opened during Carers Week in June 2022 and offers a diverse range of services to help local carers, including information and advice sessions, networking, activities, counselling, and young carers clubs.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Carers make an invaluable contribution to the livelihood of so many people across Wealden. Care for the Carers provides free wraparound service including referrals, guidance, coaching and counselling to ensure that no one is left to care alone. The wellbeing of carers is all too often forgotten, so I am delighted to see this fantastic new facility for carers in Uckfield, offering easily accessible, local services and spreading the word of the help available. I’d like to thank all our carers for their hard work and dedication, and I look forward to continuing working with Care for the Carers on supporting carers in Wealden.”

Jennifer Twist, Chief Executive of Care for the Carers, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nus Ghani MP to our new Uckfield Carers Centre, and to have the opportunity to show her around and tell her about the services that we are providing for carers in the Wealden area. Since the launch of the Carers Centre in June we have been able to deliver a variety of support, including groups, young carers clubs and activities. We are also working with our local partners to run carer support services from the centre.”
