Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed additional support provided by Sussex Police as part of Operation Hope to dozens of people at high risk of domestic abuse over the festive period.

In addition to daily police activity to protect people at risk of domestic abuse, Operation Hope was a dedicated service activated during the festive period, to protect the most vulnerable and engage with repeat offenders.

Over the two-week period in December, Sussex Police and support agencies visited 48 addresses across Sussex and resulting in positive engagement with 27 victims at high risk of domestic abuse. They were offered discreet advice, reassurance and support, and given the opportunity to report any concerns in person.

Nusrat Ghani said: "For many people Christmas is a joyous time, but sadly for some it means more time spent with an abuser. I welcome the additional support and safeguarding provided to victims under Operation Hope over the festive period and I'm grateful to Sussex Police for bringing perpetrators to justice. Domestic abuse is a devastating crime and I continue working with Sussex Police and pushing for more resources to better support victims in Wealden. If you are experiencing domestic abuse, or know that someone else is, please contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, and in an emergency, always dial 999.”
