Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that local communities will benefit from over £32,000 new funding, as a result of the Government’s long-term investment in grassroots sports.
Over 1,100 projects are receiving a share of £93 million Government funding towards facilities such as changing rooms, pavilions, state of the art 3G football turf, goalposts, and floodlights, improving access to sport and physical activity for local communities. As part of this fund, Wealden will receive £32,454, which builds on previous investment in grassroots sport, most recently in facilities in Uckfield and Nutley.
Since 2021, the Government has helped deliver new facilities or improvements to almost 2,400 sites across the UK, getting more than 120,000 people active.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Funding for grassroots sports is essential for the nation's mental and physical wellbeing, and I welcome this additional investment of £32,454 to provide more improved facilities for Wealden communities to enjoy. I have previously secured grants for several Wealden football clubs via the Premier League fund, and I’m pleased that Nutley and Uckfield also benefited from similar Government support last year to improve their sport facilities. This Government programme will further improve access to sport for thousands of people and help them get more active.”
