Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, welcomes the launch of a new recruitment campaign announced from the Department for Education, to support recruitment for the early years and childcare sector.

The ‘Do Something Big’ campaign intends to inspire those looking for a new career, by highlighting the array of various routes and progression opportunities in the early years and childcare sector. Roles include working in a nursery or pre-school, childminding and running clubs before or after school, and can be flexible to someone’s commitments.

This campaign leads to the first phase of the largest ever expansion in free childcare, which begins in April 2024 as part of the Government’s support with the cost of childcare and delivering a sustainable childcare sector. By September 2025, most working families with children under the age of 5 will be entitled to 30 hours of childcare support.

This is in addition to the £204 million of funding announced last year, which provides a substantial uplift for local authorities to increase hourly rates paid to early years providers for delivering the government funded hours to parents.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I am working with a number of fantastic local providers of early years education and childcare and know that they are keen to expand recruiting opportunities and provide more jobs locally. I have been campaigning for additional support for the sector and I welcome the launch of the ‘Do Something Big’ campaign, which comes in addition to significant expansion to funded early years education entitlements for parents from this April, and will boost recruitment drive and highlight the various career routes, training and progression opportunities available in the sector.”
