Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has met with the management of the East Sussex National Hotel to discuss ways to enable better public transport links to the resort for staff and guests.
Situated on 1100 acres of Wealden countryside just outside Uckfield and equipped with world-renown championship golf course, the East Sussex National Resort provides the perfect retreat spot. The resort is a major local employer, providing hundreds of jobs to residents in Wealden and across East Sussex, including many part-time job positions for students and carers.
However, access to the hotel by public transport is hindered as existing bus stops are located too far from the resort, requiring a long, dangerous walk alongside the A22. This is causing issues especially for young staff with no access to a car and results in lost employment opportunities.
Nusrat convened a meeting with the hotel management, commercial director of Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company and the Leader of Wealden District Council to discuss ways of improving existing bus links and infrastructure. Several proposals were discussed and cooperation between the hotel, bus company and Wealden District Council has been established.
Nusrat Ghani said: “East Sussex National is a great local asset and a vital local employer, especially for young people in the area, looking for part-time or seasonal jobs. I am keen to support the resort in securing improvements to public transport links, enabling staff and guests better access to the facility and boost job opportunities in Wealden. I will work with the Wealden District Council, the resort management and Brighton&Hove Buses and I hope that a solution can be found soon.”
