Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is supporting Dementia Action Week, which helps raise awareness about dementia and dementia diagnosis.
There are thousands of people who are in the dark about their diagnosis as many don’t know the signs to spot. Dementia Action Week is taking place this week (16-22 May 2022), and is focussing on the importance of dementia diagnosis, reminding people that symptoms such as memory loss are not a natural part of ageing.
It is estimated that there are 11,150 people currently living with dementia in East Sussex. Nusrat has been working in partnership with Rotherfield St Martin charity and Wealden Dementia Action Alliance to raise awareness about dementia in Wealden and has signed up to the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance’s Dementia Charter, which commits organisations and businesses to making small, dementia friendly changes.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Since 2015, I have been a Dementia Friend, an initiative run by Alzheimer’s UK, and I previously chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Older People. I regularly meet with AgeUK and Alzheimer’s Society to get an update on their work in Wealden, and I am pleased to be working with fantastic Wealden charities including Rotherfield St Martin and ENGAge in Hadlow Down. During this year's Dementia Action Week, please take a moment to reflect on what small changes you can make to make your community a more understanding and caring environment.”
