Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has visited Buxted Football Club to support their Chairman’s plea for new defibrillator, after their kit was vandalised recently.
Shortly after this vital equipment was used to save a footballer’s life on the pitch of the Euro 2020 match, two people were caught on CCTV last week, ruthlessly vandalising a defibrillator at Buxted Football Club. The footage has been widely shared and a 17-year-old boy has since been released on bail for causing criminal damage. South East Coast Ambulance have kindly loaned a temporary replacement, but a fundraising appeal has been launched to purchase a new one and raise awareness about how to use the equipment.
Nusrat was joined by the Leader of Wealden District Council, Bob Standley and met with Buxted FC Chairman Richard Turner to learn more about the fundraiser. Buxted FC have received many kind offers for donation of new defibrillator, but the wall box still needs repairing. The Club would also like to turn the incident into a positive and to run a series of public training sessions to highlight the importance of defibrillators, train CPR and the safe use of the AED.
