Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is supporting the Nutcracker Trail, which will bring festive cheer to Crowborough this Christmas.

With support from Wealden District Council, Crowborough town centre is welcoming an army of ten giant Nutcracker King statues over the festive period. The Nutcracker Kings are positioned at pop-up locations around the town as part of the Crowborough Nutcracker Trail from 20 November 2021 until 4 January 2022.

According to German folklore, nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to bring good luck and protect homes. The legend says that a nutcracker is a messenger of goodwill and represents power and strength, guarding from evil spirits and danger.

Young children will be able to participate in the trail by finding the nutcrackers and noting their names in a specially designed nutcracker trail booklet. They will then be able to post this in Santa’s Post Box located in the library with the chance to win exciting prizes. Trail leaflets will be delivered to local schools and also be available to collect at various locations around the town.

Nusrat Ghani said: “The nutcracker trail is a fantastic way of bringing Christmas cheer to Crowborough and provide festive entertainment to children and adults alike. Small businesses are the backbone of Wealden’s economy and they have gone above and beyond to help our communities throughout the pandemic. I hope that the nutcracker kings will generate much interest and drive footfall in Crowborough to support our local businesses and high street in the run up to Christmas.”
