Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed improvements made on the Wadhurst line, which will reduce the number of delays and improve passenger journeys.
Railway improvement work took place on the line between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings over the October half term. During this period, the railway cutting at Wadhurst tunnel was strengthened to protect the railway from landslips and other extreme weather. Diseased vegetation along the line was removed and litter picking, and resurfacing works were also carried out.
This project is part of the £1.25bn South East Upgrade and will help prevent disruption and delays to services along the line. The majority of the work has been completed during the week-long line closure last month, but further work will need to be done next year.
Nusrat Ghani said: “As part of this project, the embankments at each end of the Wadhurst rail tunnel were re-enforced to prevent landslides and delays on the line. I'm pleased that this fantastic work was completed at minimal overall disruption to passengers and will ensure more reliable train services for Wealden commuters. Securing improvements to rail services in Wealden remains one of my priorities and I will continue working with Network Rail to secure better services for Wealden residents."
