Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed Mayfield School to Westminster to introduce the students to the workings of Parliament and answer their questions.
Students from Mayfield School had the opportunity to explore the history of both Houses of Parliament this week, see where all the action takes place and make a tangible link between the area they live and the day-to-day work of UK Parliament. The tour was then followed by a Q&A session where students scrutinised the life of MPs, questioned Nusrat about her everyday duties as a Member of Parliament and learned about her work on local issues.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I’m always pleased to welcome Wealden students to Westminster. Getting our young residents interested in the workings of our democracy is a vital part of my work as an MP and I’ve always pledged to open up Parliament to the next generation of leaders and inspire our students to never hold back in achieving their dream job. It was fantastic to meet such an engaged group of students and I hope they enjoyed their first-hand experience of UK democracy. I’m pleased that following the challenges of the past 18 months, Wealden schools can take the advantage of Parliamentary tours and book visits again, and I’m looking forward to hosting more Wealden students in Parliament this academic year.“
