I have invited the CEO of South East Water, John Halsall, to answer your questions.
Local residents and businesses have suffered severe water outages and service disruption during the hot summer, with places like Crowborough, Heathfield and Horam left without supplies for extended periods of time.
South East Water has claimed that the hot summer was a contributing factor, but I have previously questioned the ability of water bosses to keep bill payers supplied with water over summer and winter. A public meeting is being convened where you will be able to ask the water company questions directly.
There is some form of disruption to our water supplies most months, causing distress to residents, businesses, and especially farmers who rely on consistent supplies of water to keep their farms running and animals alive.
I have welcomed John Halsall to the constituency to hear first-hand the issues that my constituents have had to deal with. We are tired of excuses used by the water company. We all want to see the water infrastructure invested in properly and water disruption managed quickly.
The vast majority of my constituents understand that problems can occur and that things can go wrong, but this seems to be happening on a regular basis with people left without water for weeks on end.
The boss agreed to meet me in my constituency office, but I believe it is only fair that residents and businesses can speak directly to power. I will be hosting a public meeting with local stakeholders and residents, giving the community a chance to put their questions directly to the boss of South East Water.
