Wealden MP Nus Ghani, has visited the Oakwood Park Polo Club to celebrate the opening of its new arena situated next to the A22 in Uckfield, East Sussex.
The Oakwood Park Polo Club is the home of Sussex County Polo and is the only fully Hurlingham Polo Association affiliated club to have both summer and winter polo facilities in the wider area of Sussex.
The club was started in 1999 by Francis Matthews at The Royal Leisure Centre in Henfield, West Sussex but soon outgrew the venue. The new permanent home at Oakwood Park boasts an all-weather, HPA compliant polo arena, allowing polo to be played throughout the year.
Nus Ghani said: “I am proud that Wealden is the home to the only fully HPA affiliated Polo Club in East Sussex. Oakwood Park is an incredible facility and offers a wide range of activities for everyone to learn or master polo and enjoy the game.
"I am aware of the hardships posed on our local sport clubs due to the pandemic and I hope that the fantastic facilities at Oakwood Park will attract more polo lovers to visit and enjoy the game all year round.
"I am pleased that organised sport can take place outdoors in areas under Tier 2 restrictions and I would greatly encourage everyone, including non-riders, to explore the fantastic activities that Oakwood Park offers.”
The club offers polo lessons and training programmes to people of any age and any ability, from non-riders and complete beginners, to skilled players.
They will tailor your experience to suit your specific aims and offer a wide range of activities including riding lessons, one-to-one polo tuition, group lessons, corporate polo days, and much more.
Full Playing Membership offers access to the Club’s County Tournament programme of summer and winter tournaments as well as weekly chukkas.
