The schools which will benefit include the Beacon Academy, Hailsham Community College, St Mary’s School, and Sir Henry Fermor Church of England Primary School.

Wealden MP Nus Ghani, who campaigned for the funding, said, “After many meetings with Wealden schools as well as the Department of Education, I am delighted these schools will benefit from this funding.”

The MP said it is ‘important’ to lay the foundations where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, and she cited younger people as at the ‘heart of this mission’.

She said, “This major investment will ensure Wealden schools have the facilities they need, and our children have the very best possible environment to learn in, enabling them to gain all the knowledge and skills they need for success.”

The money will come from the Condition Improvement Fund 2020-2021, which is managed by the Department for Education (DfE).

The fund will provide more than £434 million for 1,476 projects at 1,243 academies, sixth-form colleges and non-diocesan voluntary aided schools.

The investment is part of the £1.4 billion of capital funding for 2020-2021 announced in April and aims to ensure schools have well-maintained facilities to provide students with safe environments that support high-quality education.
