Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has visited South Brockwells Farm in Little Horsted to congratulate its owners and management team for being crowned the South East Regional winners in the Rural Enterprise category at the Countryside Alliance Awards.
The Awards, also known as the Rural Oscars, are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food, farming, enterprise and heritage through recognising small hard-working businesses. This year, the Rural Enterprise category included two fantastic Wealden businesses: runner up Hope Springs in Chiddingly and the winners - South Brockwells Farm in Little Horsted.
South Brockwells Farm is a family business established in 1976 and run by passionate food producers and experts in sheep farming and asparagus growing. Apart from its seasonal farm shop and butchery, the farm has also recently diversified further to now include a farm-based Education Centre and Mobile Farm. South Brockwells Farm is currently working with several local schools across the region to help disadvantaged young people re-engage in education through working with animals and on the land, while the Mobile Farm enables to share knowledge about food security, local produce and British farming with the wider community through hand-on educational experience for children and adults of all ages.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Wealden farms are the lifeblood of rural life and these awards are a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate how valued our superb farms are by our local communities. South Brockwells Farm is an exceptional family-run business and a great asset to Wealden, providing excellent local produce as well as educating our next generations about our food chains. A huge congratulations to the whole team, whose hard work and dedication has once again put Wealden on the map by being recognised at a national level. I am delighted that the farm is going from strength to strength and has been recognised by the Rural Oscars Awards, and many other prestigious awards, celebrating not only its high-quality produce, but also the outstanding community contribution it makes.”
