Nusrat Ghani MP welcomes £11.5m Government funding to support Wealden projects

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that over £11.5 million in Government grant funding has been allocated to Wealden District Council over the past two years to support various project across the district.

Amongst other projects, this Government support provided £300,000 for the redevelopment of the Streatfield House site in Uckfield; £1.1million to improve the Cuckoo Trail; support for Wealden’s high streets and climate change projects; £30,000 to support local community groups to provide physical activities in some of the most deprived areas; £84,000 to partially fund the roll out of electric vehicle charging; and £309,453 to fund various projects in and around Hailsham Town Centre to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. 

Additionally, there are also several outstanding applications for funding including a £46.5million bid for a package of improvements for the A22 transport corridor; £838,120 for projects around developing rural businesses and rural tourism and provision of electric vehicle charging in rural areas; £1.8million to deal with home energy efficiency and heating upgrades in private accommodation and provide grants to fuel poor households who are living in properties without a gas connection; £2.2million to help towards improving Wealden council homes that are off the gas network; and finally, as part of the work to deliver the new Sports Hub to the north of Hailsham, the council is in discussions with the Football Foundation opportunities for grant funding in order to provide much needed 3G playing pitches on the site.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I am constantly campaigning for more Government funding for Wealden, and I am pleased that over the past two years alone, an additional £11.5 million has been secured for several projects across the district. This much-needed investment will result in many significant infrastructure improvements for Wealden residents, businesses and visitors.”
