Farleys House and Gallery

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that Farleys House and Gallery in Muddles Green near Chiddingly has been awarded the VisitEngland Hidden Gem Accolade.

The accolades, awarded to 91 attractions across England, recognise the high-quality visitor experiences on offer across the country.

Farleys House is the Sussex home of surrealist artists Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, and their son Antony Penrose who currently co-directs the site with his daughter Ami Bouhassane. Farleys House became a meeting place for some of the leading figures of 20th century modern art, including Pablo Picasso whose creations decorate the house throughout, including above the kitchen stove.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Farleys House and Gallery is an extraordinary place for art lovers, boasting so much culture and history. It is a real cultural jewel, hidden at the heart of Wealden countryside, but globally respected and frequently visited by international art lovers, boosting Wealden tourism and supporting the local economy. This award is a great testament to their high standards and fantastic work, and I’m proud that Wealden has been put on the map yet again for its outstanding visitor experience. I’m pleased to have previously secured Government funding that has provided a lifeline to Wealden’s heritage sites including Farleys House & Gallery during the pandemic and I’m delighted to see it continue to thrive.”
