Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is encouraging Wealden residents to visit local heritage sites in celebration of English Tourism Week (15 – 24 March 2024).

Coordinated by VisitEngland and taking place from Friday 15 – Sunday 24 March, English Tourism Week is an annual celebration of the tourism industry, highlighting its importance to local economies and promoting the innovation, quality and range of products and services on offer to encourage more domestic breaks.

Tourism is one of England’s largest and most valuable industries, supporting hundreds of thousands of small-to-medium sized businesses, employing 2.6 million people and, in 2022, generating £66 billion for the economy in domestic visitor spending. Outside of London, the South East has the highest spend by tourists compared to other regions, with £10 billion being spent in 2022 alone.

Nusrat Ghani said: “English Tourism Week is an opportunity to pay tribute to and highlight the importance of England’s incredible tourism sector. Wealden heritage sites are some of the best in the country, including Ashdown Forest and Winnie the Pooh Corner, Michelham Priory near Hailsham, The Cuckoo Trail, Nutley Windmill and Sheffield Park near Uckfield, the Spa Valley Railway in Eridge and our award-winning vineyards. As the weather gets warmer and the Easter holidays fast approaching, I highly suggest exploring our local treasures with family and friends.”
