Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has welcomed additional funding for East Sussex County Council to support current smokers to quit.
The Department for Health and Social is investing an additional £70 million in 2025 to 2026 to support local authority led services. As part of this funding, East Sussex County Council will receive £710,734 to support more smokers in quitting smoking.
There is also a wide range of free resources to help create a life without smoking, including the NHS app. Find out more at: https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking/.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Millions of adults in England still smoke and smoking remains the single biggest cause of preventable illness and death in the country. However, it's never too late to quit and it's easier to stop smoking with the right support. New year often brings opportunities for positive changes in lifestyle, and I’m pleased that East Sussex will have more resources to support local residents to go smoke free.”
