Nusrat Ghani MP welcomes funding boost for local sport facilities

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has welcomed nearly £5,500 Government funding to help support grassroot sports facilities in Sussex Weald.

1,650 projects across the UK will receive funding as part of the £125 million committed in the financial year 2024 to 2025 under the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme, which will deliver improved facilities for support multi-sport use and increase participation among currently under-represented groups.

The Lower Horsebridge Recreation Ground and the Beaconsfield in Hailsham are amongst the successful projects awarded funding, and will each benefit from over £2,000 investment in goalposts upgrades.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Grassroots facilities are essential for nurturing future sporting talent and encouraging people to get active which benefits their physical and mental wellbeing. Grassroots football is at the heart of sport in Sussex Weald, and I continue working closely with local groups including Hailsham Active to deliver further improvements our local sports facilities and ensure that more people access them. I have previously secured funding for Crowborough, Hailsham, Uckfield and Nutley facilities, and I’m pleased that Hailsham and Lower Horsebridge will benefit from this year’s much needed boost.”
