Nusrat Ghani MP to lead critical debate at LISW25 Headline Conference

More speakers and key programme highlights have been unveiled for the LISW25 Headline Conference taking place on Wednesday 17 September at the International Maritime Organization’s headquarters in London.

With a programme shaped around the theme ‘The Management of Paradox in Global Shipping’, the conference will spotlight the competing forces reshaping global trade and maritime policy, from decarbonisation to geopolitical instability and regulatory uncertainty.

Across the four thematic sessions scheduled throughout the day, the conference will explore the systemic and strategic shifts facing the global supply chain, the effectiveness of regulation in a divided geopolitical environment, the pace of maritime decarbonisation, and the integration of digital innovation in a fast-changing world.

A central figure in this year’s high-level discussions is Nusrat Ghani MP, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, who will play a prominent role as moderator of the day’s second session titled ‘Driving Prosperity in a Fragmenting World?’  This session will explore whether the global shipping industry can act as both a facilitator of trade and a stabilising force in  the current geopolitical environment. This session will feature top international maritime leaders as panellists including Nikolaus H. Schües, Past President, BIMCO and CEO and Owner, Reederei F. Laeisz.

The first session will begin with opening remarks from John Hulmes, Chair of the LISW25 Steering Group, followed by a keynote address from Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the IMO, a government keynote from Mike Kane MP, Minister for Maritime and an opening address from LISW25 Conference Chair Michael Parker, member of the LISW25 Board of Advisors and Chairman of Global Shipping, Logistics & Offshore at Citi.

The third session on ‘Decarbonising a global industry in the contemporary geopolitical environment’ will be moderated by Richard Meade, Editor of Lloyd’s List and will feature Mikal Bøe, Chairman & CEO Core Power; Jan Dieleman, President, Cargill Ocean Transportation and Chair, Global Maritime Forum; Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the IMO; Capt Abdulkareem Al Mesabi, CEO, ADNOC Logistics & Services and Chair, Emirates Shipping Association;  and Katy Ware, Head of Regulatory Affairs, Zodiac Maritime. Giving a keynote address will be Katharine Palmer, Maritime Lead, Climate Champions Team UN Climate High Level Champion.

In the fourth session, ‘Where Chaos Meets Code: Thriving at the intersection of Geopolitics and Innovation, to be moderated by TradeWinds Editor-in-Chief Julian Bray, Ben Palmer, President, Inmarsat Maritime and Chair of the LISW25 Technology & Innovation Working Group will challenge panellists and delegates to think about how they will prosper in an always on, data abundant, digitally-enabled, AI-led, application heavy-world. Other confirmed speakers include: Nick Brown, Chief Executive, Lloyd’s Register; Emanuele Grimaldi, Chairman, International Chamber of Shipping; Paul Jennings, Managing Director, NorthStandard; Karrie Trauth, EVP and Global Head Shipping & Maritime, Shell.

Each session will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and opportunities for delegate engagement through Q&A.
