Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, is championing local businesses and encourages residents to shop locally and support small businesses this weekend, in support and celebration of Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday UK is a non-commercial campaign, which takes place every year on the first Saturday in December. It promotes small businesses ahead of the festive period and helps this invaluable sector of the economy grow and thrive by encouraging consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities.
This Saturday, 6th December marks 13 years of the Small Business Saturday campaign, during which it has made a real difference to small businesses, with consumer spending with small businesses on the Saturday alone reaching £1 billion in recent years.
To support the campaign and to encourage people to shop locally especially during the run up to Christmas, Nusrat visits dozens of local businesses and enterprises every year. To name just a few, this year she supported Murray & Yeatman distillers in Lower Dicker, Birchden Vineyards in Groombridge, Mayfield & Frant Post Offices, Wadhurst Flowers, Sue’s Shoes in Heathfield, Pomfret Butchers in Horam, Gallipot Inn pub in Hartfield, MAYBUGS in Hailsham, Kings Head pub in East Hoathly; and celebrated 25 years of Waldron’s The English Soap Company.
Nusrat also attended The Crowborough Business Expo hosted by the Crowborough and District Chamber of Commerce, and was a guest speaker at a roundtable and networking event hosted by Hailsham Chamber of Commerce.
Nusrat Ghani said: “The festive season is just around the corner and with so many fantastic award-winning businesses on our doorstep, there is no better place to get your Christmas shopping than our local high streets. I am proud that Sussex Weald is home to a huge variety of small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy. They provide valuable job opportunities, keep our high streets vibrant and bustling and the money we spend with them goes straight back into our communities. Our fantastic small businesses are owned by our neighbours, friends, and family, who work incredibly hard all year round, so I would like to encourage local residents to join me and support them on this Small Business Saturday and all year-round.”
