Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, was delighted to meet with the Headteacher of Heathfield Community College Caroline Barlow, to congratulate her on Heathfield being amongst the top schools in the country for results achieved by disadvantaged pupils in the 2024/25 school year.
Heathfield Community College is a secondary school and Sixth Form, offering a wide range of experiences and opportunities to help its students flourish in a vibrant and nurturing environment.
The hard work and high standards of the whole school community have recently resulted in Heathfield Community being amongst the top schools in the country for results achieved by disadvantaged pupils in the 2024/25 school year. This significant achievement has also been recognised by the Education Secretary, who recognised the hard work of teachers, support staff and students in her congratulatory correspondence to the Headteacher.
For the past three years, disadvantaged students at Heathfield have done better than similar students across the country and at least as well as ‘all’ students. The school has also seen strong results for SEND students and very little difference between the results of boys and girls.
During her most recent regular catch up with Ms Barlow, Nusrat was also pleased to learn about the College’s plans to expand SEND provision and discuss the school’s views on the proposed ban on social media for under-16s and the policies that are already in place to prevent and limit the use of mobile phones during the school day.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Heathfield Community College is a fantastic local school and a great asset to Sussex Weald. I am thrilled that they were amongst the top schools in the country for results achieved by disadvantaged pupils in the 2024/25 school year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole school community for their tireless work. This is a significant achievement and puts Heathfield on the map. I hope that they will continue to share their experience and best practice with other schools locally and nationwide, helping raise standards across the education sector.”
Caroline Barlow, HCC Headteacher, said: “This success is not because of one person or one team. It comes from everyone working together: students, school staff and families at home. It is a shared achievement. It reflects a partnership between home and school that helps young people attend well, work hard and feel supported to aim high. As a community, we can all take pride in what Heathfield Community College continues to achieve—for every child.”
