Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, joined Hailsham communities as well as Hailsham Boxing Club Owner Sam Buchanan, Hailsham Mayor Cllr Chris Bryant, and Hailsham Active Chair Steve Wennington in officially opening the new home of the Club on Station Road Industrial Estate.
The official opening attracted a large crowd of supporters, local residents, businesses and Hailsham Boxing Club members, who gathered to celebrate this special moment, unveiling a new facility housing two full-size boxing rings alongside a gym.
The Hailsham Boxing Club, which was founded during the Covid-19 pandemic, now boasts 180 members and is open to both adults and children, boys and girls. It is affiliated with England Boxing, welcomes boxers of all abilities and provides monthly memberships starting at £5 a month.
Thanks to vital help from Hailsham Town Council, local businesses and organisations including Hailsham Active, and national organisations including Empire Fighting Chance and Matchroom Boxing, the Club was supported through difficult times when its future was uncertain due to its previous premises no longer being fit for purpose and its lease running out.
The official opening was also attended by Frank Smith, CEO of Matchroom Boxing and Brighton fighter Adam Maca, who has seven titles in the junior ranks, including five national titles and also won a silver medal at the IBA World Junior Championships representing Albania in 2023.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I was delighted to join Hailsham communities and the owner of Hailsham Boxing Club Sam Buchanan for this key milestone in the Club’s history, after what has not been an easy journey. A huge thanks to all organisations who supported and delivered this wonderful new home for Hailsham Boxing Club, especially Hailsham Active, Hailsham Town Council, Empire Fighting Chance and Matchroom Boxing. These fantastic new premises mean that all local children and adults have access to boxing, safe space to train and a vital hub to learn important skills, stay active and healthy, and build confidence in a supportive and positive environment.”
