An MP has praised an "innovative" approach to improving road safety and tackling the root causes of potholes.
Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, visited the Heathfield head office of Metrail Construction Limited to learn more about their long-term pothole repair solutions.
The company, established in 2007, specialises in infrastructure maintenance and repair across highways, bridges and rail networks.
Ms Ghani said: "I know from my inbox and surgeries that potholes and road conditions are one of the major concerns of local residents.
"Driving across the constituency every week, I recognise and share the frustration as well as concerns about the impact of poor road conditions on public safety."
During her visit, she met Metrail’s managing director, Martyn Sherwood, and heard about the company’s approach to addressing recurring pothole problems, which are often caused by freeze-thaw cycles during winter.
Unlike traditional surface patching, Metrail uses a concrete slab stabilisation process.
This involves injecting a silica-based resin into the sub-base to displace water and fill voids, potentially extending the road’s lifespan by up to 30 years.
Ms Ghani said: "I was pleased to meet with the managing director and team at Metrail to hear more about how our local companies are leading the way in infrastructure improvements and longevity and delivering innovative solutions to some of the main issues within the transport sector.
"It is absolutely vital that our roads continue to receive the investment they need and I continue to press our local authorities and Government Ministers to ensure that Sussex Weald is not forgotten when decisions are made about funding to improve the safety and durability of our roads."
Metrail works with tier one contractors for Highways England, Network Rail and London Underground, delivering long-lasting and cost-effective maintenance solutions across the UK.
