Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, was delighted to join the team from Rushlake Green Village Stores at a Parliamentary event celebrating winners of the Countryside Alliance Awards 2026.
The Awards, also known as the Rural Oscars, are driven by public nomination and are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food, farming, heritage and community life.
This year, the Rushlake Green Village Stores, which also have a branch in Heathfield, were the 2026 South East of England winners in the Village Shop/Post Office category, putting Sussex Weald on the map of excellent rural businesses.
The annual Champions’ Reception in the House of Lords serves as the grand finale of the awards process, with all regional winners invited to celebrate their achievements and compete for the coveted national champion.
Nusrat was delighted to meet with Tony Field and Sally Reed to congratulate them in person and celebrate this proud moment for the business.
Nusrat Ghani said: “We are incredibly lucky to have so many fantastic rural businesses in Sussex Weald. They are key assets to our local communities and are the cornerstones of our rural life. I am proud that Sussex Weald has a strong history of participating in the Rural Oscars awards, and I am absolutely delighted that following the success of South Brockwells Farm and Smiles Sensory and Family Farm, Rushlake Green Village Stores were crowned South East Regional winners in the Village Shop/Post Office category this year. Well done to the whole team on this fantastic achievement!”
