Nusrat Ghani meeting Medi Tech Trust team

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, was pleased to return to Medi Tech Trust to meet the team of trustees and volunteers and to hear more about their latest initiatives.

Medi Tech Trust is a Hailsham-based charity operating out of a small warehouse, supplying recycled medical equipment to communities around the world, including local projects in Sussex.  The charity’s work initially started as a project to raise funds for a laser machine in Eastbourne Hospital over twenty years ago. Since then, the charity has supplied over £1 million worth of equipment and services locally, as well as a complex programme of supplying equipment and training parts of Africa, Asia and areas of civil unrest including Ukraine.

Their current programme of work recently enabled them to supply 10 lifting chairs across East Sussex, as well as 16 full shipping containers of donations to be sent overseas in last year. Their support for Ukraine sees a van load every other week containing bandages, dressings, wheelchairs, beds and other medical devices to support healthcare.
Medi Tech Trust received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2021 and is continues to seek new volunteers to support and enable their work. Head to meditechtrust.org for more information.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I am always in awe at the work Medi Tech Trust do, here in Sussex as well as overseas. Which is why my support is also as a Patron of this fantastic local charity. On one of my regular catch up visits, I heard first-hand about their latest initiatives, including the 10 lifting chairs they have provided to those in need across East Sussex. Donations they receive from members of the public are redistributed to Ukraine every other week, from bandages to wheelchairs.

I also want to support their appeal to the government and regulators to allow unused equipment to be used in FE colleges for medical examination training. It seems absurd that so much unused equipment is destroyed, costing the NHS and taxpayer vast amounts of money. Medi Tech Trust can safely re-purpose equipment for training if the government and regulators allowed. I am very grateful to the whole team for everything they are doing to save lives around the world.”

Nusrat Ghani MP previously arranged for the team to meet the former Health Secretary so they could talk about how to spread their work across the UK. She intends to introduce them to the new ministers in order to showcase their life saving work.
