Dear resident,
I hope that you enjoyed the May bank holidays and the little bit of warmth and sunshine that we've been having at the beginning of the month and over the VE Day 80 weekend. It is finally starting to look like summer might be around the corner!โ๏ธ
๐ฌ๐ง Celebrating VE 80 Day ๐ฌ๐ง
It was lovely to catch up with many local residents and communities in Hailsham, Heathfield, Rotherfield, Mayfield and Withyham over the VE Day 80weekend, to mark this momentous occasion in our country's history. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise local events for our communities and families to come together and bring the commemorations to life!๐๐ฝ
I'm also pleased to be supporting a campaign to honour the pilots of the Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, which was an unarmed unit gathering images and intelligence. This also includes Sussex Wealdโs own William Gingell, who was born in Wadhurst and served under exceptionally difficult conditions. Read more ๐๐ฝ here.
๐ Championing our Sussex Weald farming community ๐
May has been a month of focus on all things Farming. I hosted the Sussex Weald Farmersโ Forum 2025 on Friday 16th May in Five Ashes near Mayfield, bringing together over 30 local farmers representing Hartfield, Hellingly, Heathfield, Chiddingly, Wadhurst, Mayfield, Eridge, Crowborough and Waldron, and representatives from Sussex Police including the Rural Crime Team Inspector and the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council, the Food Standards Agency, the Environment Agency, South East Water and the Wealden Food Partnership. Read more ๐๐ฝ here.
I was also proud to support the annual Heathfield Agricultural Show, which brought together residents and our farming communities to showcase the best of local produce and food production and celebrate our rural life and local enterprises. I joined David Exwood, Vice President of the NFU at the Rural Business Breakfast for a Q&A session about all things farming and was honoured to join the judging and prize giving of the Driving Class Concours DโElegance / Side Saddle classes, which this year was won by a Hailsham rider.๐
I continue working with our local authorities, organisations and businesses and I'm pleased that there's been a lot of exciting things happening in the constituency.
