Dear Resident,

β˜€οΈ I hope you are enjoying the warmer days of Sussex Weald summer, while keeping safe in the recent heatwaves. As the summer months will no doubt be bringing more heat, see the NHS tips on staying safe, and how to identify signs of heat-related illness πŸ‘‰πŸ½ here.

The end of June brought us yet another blow for Crowborough communities as the Home Office confirmed its intention to extend the use of the Crowborough Training Camp as asylum accommodation until 2030.

The announcement confirms what were the Home Office’s true intentions at Crowborough all along, despite previous attempts to deny it. This means that the Cadets and blue light services are now being displaced from the site not for months, but for years.

I have been relentless in challenging the Home Office and the Council every step of the way, pressing Ministers via letters and Freedom of Information Requests, and I have continuously warned the Green/Liberal Democrat leadership of Wealden District Council failing to act as the Local Planning Authority would give the green light for the Home Office to use Crowborough Training Camp for years, regardless of the cost and evidence that the site is safe, legal and compliant.

Since the news broke on 25th June, I have:
πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Slammed the Home Office's plans (read more HERE)
πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Spoken to BBC Radio Sussex (read more HERE)
πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Held the Minister to account in the Commons Chamber (watch HERE)
πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Held yet another meeting with the Minister to convey the strength of local feeling and to scrutinise the Home Office and share concerns of local residents (read more HERE)

I will continue to lead the campaign to step up and stand up for Crowborough and challenge the Home Office as they give no guarantee that they will ever willingly leave the Crowborough site.

πŸ‘†πŸ½I'm using every opportunity to raise the Crowborough Training Camp time and time again in Westminster. Watch the Minister respond

On Sunday 14th June, I joined my MP colleagues Peter Lamb & Monica Harding on BBC Politics South East. We discussed:
πŸ‘‰πŸ½ The lack of traditional banking services in Crowborough after the Lloyds bank closed earlier this month, and my ongoing campaign to set up a Banking Hub on Crowborough High Street.
πŸ‘‰πŸ½ The crisis of young people not being in education employment and how our brilliant charity Wealden Works in Heathfield is tackling this locally, getting young people into employment with local businesses.

πŸ“Ί You can watch the whole episode of BBC Politics South East here. πŸ‘‰πŸ½ https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m000dk0t/politics-south-east

There's been much more going on across the constituency and I was pleased to join and support our charities, businesses and medical providers.
