Nus Ghani has welcomed extra funding from central Government that has been made available for East Sussex County Council, announced by the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
A further £150 million has been made available for county councils as an Adult Social Care Support grant, following representations and behind the scenes lobbying from local Conservative MPs, which means that East Sussex County Council will have an extra £1.6 million to continue delivering high quality social care across Wealden.
Nus hosted a meeting between East Sussex County Council and the Local Government Minister, at the time Marcus Jones MP, to stress the importance of extra funding for East Sussex.
The extra funding is a recognition of the need to prioritise spending on the social care services that East Sussex County Council provides to our elderly and vulnerable citizens. The funding will allow for councils to increase provider fees, provide for more care packages and reduce delayed transfer of care.
Commenting on the extra funding, Ms Ghani said: “I welcome the extra funding being made available to East Sussex County Council
“This extra funding will allow for greater focus on social care across Wealden. Looking after our older people is one of the most important responsibilities of East Sussex County Council so I am pleased that more money has been made available to that end.
“I would like to thank all local organisations, councillors and MPs who have pushed hard for this extra funding, making the case behind the scenes to secure the commitments from the Government.”
