Wealden MP Nus Ghani is continuing to monitor the water supply problems which have affected large areas of Wealden over the last few days.

Since Saturday morning, many parts of Wealden have had no access to any water, including the towns of Crowborough, Wadhurst, Mayfield and Rotherfield, and surrounding villages.

Nus Ghani has been in constant contact with South East Water, the water company responsible, and Wealden District Council, ensuring that bottled water is available where needed and in sufficient quantities.

As of this morning, Wednesday 7th March, a majority of Nus’ constituents have had water return and is functioning normally. However, Nus will be continuing to liaise directly with Southeast Water and the Council to ensure that a full and reliable service continues for the foreseeable future.

Ms Ghani said:  “The water supply problems that have plagued Wealden for the last few days have been unacceptable. They have left families, businesses and schools without any running water for more than four days in some cases.

“I was disappointed at the reaction of South East Water to the crisis. They were slow to get bottled water where it was needed, and failed to appropriately communicate with my constituents.

“It is very welcome to see most of Wealden now reconnected and able to use their water supply as normal. While this is good news, it is important that we continue to monitor the situation to ensure that there is no sudden drop off in supply again.

“I will be writing to South East Water in the coming days to ask what they intend to do to ensure that they have sufficient contingency plans in place, should water supply problems re-emerge in the future.”
