Wealden MP Nus Ghani was delighted to welcome news that seven Wealden community projects have won almost £70,000 of lottery funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

The Big Lottery Fund uses the proceeds of lottery tickets to support, grow and develop a wide variety of community projects.

The seven winning projects are:

·        Wadhurst Culture (tackling social isolation) - £10,000

·        Community Stuff (Hailsham cooking programme) - £10,000

·        East Sussex Association for the Blind (Hailsham) - £10,000

·        Hailsham Arts Festival - £10,000

·        Russian Community Association - £10,000

·        Groombridge Village Hall - £9,981

·        Bird Aid (supporting people with learning disabilities) - £7,800

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said:“It’s fantastic to see community projects across Wealden winning funding from the Big Lottery Funding to the tune of almost £70,000.

“Each project does fantastic supporting our local Wealden communities, and I am sure that the additional funding will help them continue to provide their important local services.

“I have previously raised my disappointment that larger urban charities tended to win funds over Wealden’s  smaller rural charities which have greater impact in Wealden villages and towns. I am pleased at the success this year and I will continue to support lottery fund charity bids from local charities.

“Thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery, making the Big Lottery Fund possible. I’m looking forward to visiting and supporting these projects, starting with the Hailsham Arts Festival this weekend.”
