Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is supporting residents and local authorities in tackling rural crime.

Although the levels of crime in Wealden are low, sadly, incidents of anti-social behaviour and domestic violence are still an issue during the coronavirus lockdown. Where unchecked, these crimes can have an overwhelming impact on victims and in some cases, on the wider community.

To tackle rural crime, a multi-agency response is currently underway and Sussex Police has increased its presence and patrol activity across the region to deal with incidents speedily and effectively. Nus Ghani MP routinely holds meetings with Sussex Police to raise the cases of constituents who have been the victims of crime and these new initiatives will be welcomed across Wealden.

Two weeks of high-profile policing have been dedicated to combat rural crime in Wealden, in addition to nearly 500 hours of existing police patrol activity in the area. Since the beginning of the year operations to detect and prevent these crimes in Wealden have led to 18 arrests.

An intelligence operation with Kent Police and Surrey Police to track criminals moving across counties is also ongoing.

Please report any concerns to the police by calling 101 or visit the Sussex Police website here. If you are in danger, always call 999.

Nus Ghani said: “Wealden is a great place to live and has consistently low levels of crime. Despite this, there have been incidents of anti-social behaviour and domestic violence taking place across the constituency over the last few months. I am in regular contact with Sussex Police and our District Commander Alasdair Henry to discuss individual cases of constituents, farmers, and local businesses who have reached out to me regarding local crime.”

“I am pleased that despite the incidence of crime in the constituency remaining low, there are ongoing multi-agency efforts and the police have increased patrol activity across Wealden. I can assure Wealden residents that any criminal activity will be met with the full force of the law and urge them to report any concerns to the police.”
