Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has visited The Llama Park, situated in the beautiful countryside of Wych Cross, to celebrate its reopening.

The Llama Park is set in 33 acres of beautiful countryside adjacent to the Ashdown Forest. The Park, which is not only a home to llamas, but also to alpacas, goats, sheep, pigs, peacocks, deer and Shetland ponies, has reopened its doors to visitors earlier this month. You can explore the grounds on your own or take a guided walk in the grounds with a llama. The site also includes outdoor playgrounds and a Tea Room and Coffee Shop serving home-made food.

During the visit, Nus learnt about the shearing of llamas. The animals are sheared once a year, usually in May. This year, shearing had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

Nus also had the opportunity to learn about the concerns of the owner, Bobby Schuck, regarding the impact of Covid-19 on the business, and regarding the intrusion of the car park earlier this year. In early June, the car park was intruded by dozens of noisy modified cars, resulting in great distress to the animals as well as the owners, staff and neighbours.

Following the visit, Nus Ghani said: “It is always a pleasure to visit local businesses and to learn about how they operate. Witnessing the shearing of llamas and alpacas was certainly a memorable experience and I enjoyed walking in the beautiful grounds of the Park. The Llama Park provides a great day out for everyone, regardless of age.”

“Small businesses are at the heart of our local community and the last few months have been an incredibly difficult period for them. I am pleased to see The Llama Park reopened to customers and I would greatly encourage people to pay it a visit this summer.”

“I was shocked and saddened to learn about the incident in The Llama Park car park earlier this summer. This antisocial behaviour cannot be tolerated. I have raised this case with the police and together we discussed measures to prevent this activity from taking place again. Two weeks of high-profile policing have been dedicated to combat rural crime in Wealden, in addition to nearly 500 hours of existing police patrol activity in the area.”

The Llama Park is open on five days a week, from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm. Tickets are on sale through the website.

Championing our Farmers

Wealden is a beautiful place, with rolling countryside, stunning forests and energetic towns. Wealden is also home to many amazing farms, which are the lifeblood of rural life. I want to build a Rural Powerhouse, one known for its thriving small businesses, including its farms and vineyards, as for the beauty of its countryside.
