Wealden Awards

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that six cultural sites and entertainment businesses in Wealden have been awarded funding as part of the second round of the Culture Recovery Fund.

In July last year, the Government announced an unprecedented £1.57 billion package to support heritage and the wider cultural sector through grants distributed by the Arts Council. The Picture House in Uckfield, Hailsham Pavilion Cinema, Farleys House & Gallery, The Bluebell Railway and Sussex Archaeological Society have already benefited from the first round of funding announced in October last year. Some of these will be receiving further boost as part of the second round.

In Round 2, nearly £400 million worth of funding has been allocated to over 2,700 arts, culture and heritage organisations in England, including 6 awards in Wealden, totalling £521,901.

Successful recipients are:

  • The Picture House, Uckfield
  • The Pavilion cinema, Hailsham
  • Lavender Line Ltd, Isfield
  • Feral Peacock Ltd, Forest Row
  • Lost Dog Dance, Laughton
  • Farleys House & Gallery Ltd, Muddles Green

Nus Ghani said: “I am constantly campaigning to secure more Government funding for Wealden and I am delighted that these further grants will ensure that our local heritage sites and entertainment companies continue to thrive post-pandemic. The Culture Recovery Fund has provided a vital financial lifeline to many venues across England and I am proud that Wealden’s two fantastic independent cinemas are amongst those receiving further support to help them remain financially secure before they reopen their doors to customers. Farleys House & Gallery is a real cultural gem for art lovers and historians, and I am pleased that the Lavender Line, Feral Peacock and Lost Dog Dance have also been awarded Government funding. It is essential that we preserve our heritage, celebrate Wealden’s history, and protect local jobs and local economy.”
