With face coverings becoming mandatory in shops recently, the Sewing Crow-Bees have now raised an impressive £6,000 for the Friends of Crowborough Hospital and the total is still rising.

Members of the club who have been making the face masks have received a special constituency award by Wealden MP Nus Ghani for their effort.

Sewing Crow-Bees, led by Alison Cousins, swung into action upon learning that the annual Crowborough Hospital Fete could not go ahead this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They were determined to do as much as possible to make up for the Friends’ loss of income and the amount raised represents an extraordinary effort.

The Friends are delighted that the Sewing Crow-Bees have been recognised for their amazing voluntary effort.

Mrs Ghani made the presentation on Chapel Green on Friday, July 31, with appropriate social distancing measures in place.

Mrs Ghani told the group Wealden had just 100 Covid-19 awards to be handed out among the 110,000 people living in the constituency, and said the Sewing Crow-Bees were consistently the most nominated group.

She congratulated them on being very worthy award winners.

Chantal Wilson, chairman of the Friends of Crowborough Hospital, said the coronavirus crisis had seen people come forward to help them through such a difficult tme.

She said: “The Sewing Crow-Bees have done a marvellous job keeping Crowborough supplied with face masks and at the same time raising a huge amount of money for the Friends of Crowborough Hospital.

“There has never been a better time to support our wonderful hospital.

“The award is extremely well deserved and the Friends are so pleased that this voluntary group has been given this recognition.

“Thank you Sewing Crow-Bees!”

The constituency award is handed out by the MP for those who have gone above and beyond to help others.
