Police response to cars trespassing at Forest Row llama park – owner tells of ‘frightening’ experience

Bobby Schuck, who owns and lives at The Llama Park, told the Express: “Between 30 and 40 souped up cars entered the car park frightening my wife, staff and close neighbours and me.

“They eventually all dispersed before the police – who had been called by a neighbour, my wife and a staff member – arrived.”

Bobby posted details of the incident on The Llama Park Facebook page and more than 85,000 people have responded to show their support.

He said he has also been in touch with Wealden MP Nus Ghani about the incident.

He added: “We – normal people – cannot allow this sort of absolute madness behaviour to go on and we have to stand up to such arrogant and violent invasions of private property.”

Bobby confirmed a barrier has since been erected at the car park – in a bid to prevent the incident from happening again.

Sussex Police confirmed officers responded to a number of vehicles trespassing at The Llama Park on Saturday, June 6.

A spokesman said: “The vehicles had all left the vicinity before officers arrived, but warning letters are being sent to the registered owners of vehicles known to have been present.

“Officers from the Wealden district prevention team have since been in contact with the owner of the land to discuss measures that can be put in place to prevent this activity from taking place again.”

The Llama Park reopens to the public on Saturday (July 4), but there will be a number of new safety measures in place.

Bobby said: “We have set up the systems required to control entry numbers and to set up an online booking system.

“Llama walking has always been a major pleasure for customers coming here and a major source of income for us, but we have been told that customers cannot touch the animals or feed them and that is what the Llama Walk is all about so we will not be able to restart llama walks for some time to come.”

He confirmed the park will now be open five days a week, with the park closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Opening hours will be 10am to 4pm and no walk-ins or phone bookings will be accepted. Vouchers will also not be accepted in the first two weeks.

Bobby added: “Government regulations require that we limit the number of customers and that we keep a record of bookings for the track and trace system.

“Initially we will be allowing 24 bookings per day which have to be booked online. Each booking will get a six-seat table under a marquee.

“The playground will be open. Food and drink will be available for order, but only contactless and cards will be accepted.

“No picnics or drinks will be allowed to be brought in. Maps showing the one-way system for walking in the park will be provided on arrival. Outside toilets will be available.”
