Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has been re-elected as Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Polo.

Polo has a strong and dedicated following, with both professional and amateur players spread across the country. Polo grounds are important local employers presenting a cascade of full- and part-time work opportunities from tutors, grooms and horse transporters to groundskeepers and maintenance staff. In normal times, the sport injects huge amounts of capital into the UK economy, attracting sponsorship from many industries and audiences and players from across the world.

However, British polo clubs have suffered throughout the pandemic and so have the jobs that are dependent on them. The Group’s aim is to promote UK polo clubs and support their recovery from the pandemic.

Wealden is the home of the Oakwood Park Polo Club - the only fully HPA affiliated polo club in East Sussex. It boasts an all-weather, HPA-compliant polo arena, allowing polo to be played throughout the year. The Club is offering polo lessons, training programmes and polo days to people of any age and any ability, from non-riders and complete beginners, to skilled players. For more information and to book, please visit: www.oakwoodparkpoloclub.co.uk.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Polo has a long tradition in British sport. Polo clubs boost employment opportunities in many rural areas and I am pleased that they are now reopen and ready to welcome anyone who enjoys the game. I am proud that Wealden is the home to the only fully HPA affiliated Polo Club in East Sussex, enabling anyone to learn or master polo and enjoy the game. Oakwood Park is an incredible facility and I look forward to welcoming my Parliamentary colleagues to our fantastic facilities at Oakwood Park in the near future.”
