This week, from June 7 to 13, is National Carers Week, celebrating the millions of unpaid carers in the UK and recognising the valuable contribution they make to families and communities throughout the country. Nusrat Ghani, MP is backing carers across Wealden and East Sussex who make invaluable contributions to the livelihood of ill, older or disabled loved ones.

She has been a Dementia Friend since 2015, has previously chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Older People, launched the Sussex Elders’ Commission report in 2016 which addressed safety for older people and she is currently working with Rotherfield St Martin charity to make Wealden more dementia-friendly.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Carers play a vital role in supporting our communities and they make such a wonderful contribution to the livelihoods of so many people across Wealden.

"I am grateful for the amazing work they continue to do, ensuring that everyone has a better quality of life and personalised end of life care. I regularly work with our care homes in Wealden to raise their concerns in Parliament and ensure they have the resources they need.

"Carers week is an important campaign to raise awareness of the support available to millions of carers who sacrifice so much for their loved ones. The wellbeing of carers is all too often forgotten and I am delighted to see this initiative spreading the word of the help available.”
