Uckfield Festival

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has attended two fantastic local events over the weekend – Hailsham Live and Uckfield Festival.

Hailsham Live was an event organised in collaboration with Hailsham Town Council and Wealden District Council, and was a great opportunity to bring the community together and showcase the fantastic local businesses and community organisations, such as the Hailsham Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Michelham Priory, Sunflowers CIC, Hailsham Youth, and many others. In the evening, Hailsham was transformed into Wealden’s version of Glastonbury, with various tribute acts and bands as well as local food stalls available.

Uckfield Festival takes place annually on the second weekend in July and Nusrat attended the Classic and Historic cars event, exhibiting vehicles of all ages as well as electric vehicles. The 700,00 owners of classic cars have started an alliance to help keep these precious vehicles on the road in the future and Nusrat has been championing their campaign and spoken to BBC Radio 4 on the day. Nusrat also had the pleasure of meeting our local history-maker Joy Parks, who was one of the first two female traffic police officers in Sussex.

Nusrat Ghani said: “We are lucky to have so many fabulous summer events in Wealden and I’m pleased that they were able to finally go ahead this year, providing a much-needed morale and economic boost. Hailsham Live was a fantastic community event and I hope that it will come back again next year. I love attending Uckfield Festival as it never disappoints. I’m proud that we have classic car trade firms in Wealden and I’m fully supporting the newly formed trade association, the Historic and Classic Vehicles Alliance (HCVA) with a mission to protect and promote the classic vehicles sector and secure its long-term future. We need to do all we can to support a sector that provides thousands of highly skilled and well-paid jobs in Wealden and across the UK.”
