Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the extension of the Government’s Covid Local Support Grant and a further £1,5m for East Sussex County Council.
Throughout the pandemic, the Covid Local Support Grant (previously known as the Covid Winter Grant Scheme) has enabled Local Authorities in England to support families across the country struggling with the cost of living as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. The scheme has run from 1 December, with a total investment of over £269 million so far.
The Government has recently announced that the arrangements will be extended, with a further investment of £160m, to cover the period up to 30 September. East Sussex County Council will receive an additional £1,501,111 to cover the period from 21 June to 30 September, bringing its total allocation to £4,025,793.
Nusrat Ghani said: “East Sussex County Council and Wealden District Council have done an incredible job providing support and keeping people safe under the most difficult of circumstances. Across the country, families have been benefiting from the scheme in a number of ways, with support designed by local councils to make sure the needs of the community are met. With this additional funding, East Sussex County Council will be able to continue this support and extend this lifeline to those most in need in Wealden and across East Sussex.”
