Uckfield Festival brings the community together

We are lucky to have so many fabulous summer events in Wealden and I’m pleased that they were able to finally go ahead this year.

Wealden MP Nusrat Ghani took a turn behind the wheel of a classic sports car when she visited the Uckfield Festival recently.

The festival takes place on the second weekend of July and features the Classic and Historic cars event, exhibiting vehicles of all ages as well as electric vehicles. The 700,00 owners of classic cars have started an alliance to help keep these vehicles on the road and Nusrat has been championing their campaign and spoken to BBC Radio 4 on the day. Nusrat also had the pleasure of meeting history-maker Joy Parks, who was one of the first two female traffic police officers in Sussex.

Nusrat also attended the Hailsham Live event organised in collaboration with Hailsham Town Council and Wealden District Council. It presented a great opportunity to bring the community together and showcase businesses and community organisations, such as the Hailsham Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Michelham Priory, Sunflowers CIC, Hailsham Youth, and many others. In the evening, Hailsham was transformed into Wealden’s version of Glastonbury, with various tribute acts and bands as well as local food stalls available.

Nusrat Ghani said: “We are lucky to have so many fabulous summer events in Wealden and I’m pleased that they were able to finally go ahead this year, providing a much-needed morale and economic boost. Hailsham Live was a fantastic community event and I hope that it will come back again next year. I love attending Uckfield Festival as it never disappoints. I’m proud that we have classic car trade firms in Wealden and I’m fully supporting the newly formed trade association, the Historic and Classic Vehicles Alliance (HCVA) with a mission to protect and promote the classic vehicles sector and secure its long-term future. We need to do all we can to support a sector that provides thousands of highly skilled and well-paid jobs in Wealden and across the UK.”
