Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 Ticketing
With less than one year to go until the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opens on 28th July, I am writing to update you on some major milestones and opportunities for you and your constituents to get involved. Birmingham 2022 remains on schedule and on budget as we work to deliver a world class sporting and cultural event that delivers significant benefits for the West Midlands and the UK. I am delighted to say that the main ticket ballot for the Games is now open and will close at 8pm on 30 September.
Given the expected strong demand for tickets, a ticket ballot is the fairest way of giving everyone a chance to apply for tickets. I would encourage you and your constituents to apply to ensure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience this unmissable world class sporting event. Our ‘Games for everyone’ has over one million tickets priced £22 or less, with prices starting from just £8 for under 16s and from £15 for adults. You and your constituents can apply now for tickets for all the 286 sessions of sport, and for the opening and closing ceremonies. With 19 sports in 14 venues across the West Midlands and beyond, there will be something for everyone. The only way to apply for tickets to Birmingham 2022 is through the official website at birmingham2022.com, with more details on the competition schedule for all the 19 sports and eight para sports on the website. If you choose to enter the ballot, you may wish to also promote that you’ve submitted your application for tickets.
The Queen’s Baton Relay is set to leave Buckingham Palace containing a message from Her Majesty the Queen on 7 October. It will then travel around 68 Commonwealth nations and territories before spending 40 days touring the four nations of the United Kingdom. The Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee is in the early stages of planning the UK logistics for the relay and more details about opportunities for places across the country to potentially be a part of the Queen’s Baton Relay will be made public over the coming months. The Organising Committee will be writing out to all MPs with more details on this in the near future. In addition, Birmingham 2022 will soon be on the lookout for baton bearers to carry the baton and soon publish a nomination and selection process for this.
Birmingham 2022 will be in touch with you with more details when applications open later this Autumn. Just last week, the Volunteer Selection Centre for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opened, with over 25,000 people expected to pass through the doors over the coming months. Thousands of people from across the UK and further afield have applied to become part of the volunteer programme - a community of passionate and dedicated people who will be the faces of the Games, representing the best of the region and the UK to the whole Commonwealth.
