Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is proud to announce that three Wealden schools have been allocated funding for building upgrades via the highly competitive Government Condition Improvement Fund (CIF).
The core priority of CIF is keeping eligible academy, sixth-form college, and voluntary aided school buildings safe and in good working order. Following a rigorous assessment process, £498 million was allocated in the 2022-23 round of CIF, for 1,405 projects at 1,129 academies, sixth-form colleges and voluntary aided schools.
Three Wealden schools: Beacon Academy in Crowborough, Hailsham Community College, and St Mary's School in Maynard's Green are amongst the successful bids.
Following two years of continuous campaigning and meetings with the Department for Education, Nusrat already helped secure over £1.3 million for upgrades to Beacon Academy via the CIF in July 2021.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am absolutely thrilled about this brilliant news. This is a great win for Wealden and the teachers and leadership teams at Beacon Academy, Hailsham Community College and St Mary’s School. This boost in funding will ensure that Wealden students can thrive in an improved environment and better facilities. I am proud to have already secured a fantastic £1.3 million for Crowborough last year and I will continue to lobby the Government so that every child in Wealden gets the same education funding and opportunities as pupils across East Sussex and the rest of the country.”
