Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the District Council’s proposals for an investment plan totalling £1.2m as part of the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The projects have been approved by Wealden District Council’s Cabinet committee as part of an investment plan to the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to draw down on the £1,172,127 in funding for the district, which has been allocated over a three-year period as part of the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Key areas of investment include the regeneration of the Cuckoo Trail, support for local town and village centres to make them thrive and encourage people to shop local, and business support interventions, providing support to new start-up businesses and meeting the needs of those more established and mature businesses.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am constantly campaigning for more Government funding for Wealden, and I welcome the investment plan proposed by Wealden District Council to improve the environment, local economy and wellbeing of Wealden residents as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The Cuckoo Trail is an important asset in great need of additional investment to improve safety and accessibility for Wealden residents, and given the severe impact of Covid-19 on the district’s town centres, this investment is also essential for revitalising the hearts of Crowborough, Uckfield and Hailsham and economic activity within them. I support the proposals submitted by Wealden District Council and I look forward to working in partnership with Wealden authorities and organisations, and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to enable delivery of the proposed schemes and improve the lives of Wealden communities."
