Bewl Water

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has met with Wealden District Council representatives and representatives of the Bewl Rowing and Canoe Clubs to discuss the current provision of water sport facilities at Bewl Water reservoir.

Bewl Water is the largest stretch of inland open water in the South East of England, and a fantastic local asset attracting thousands of visitors every year to enjoy the open water and leisure activities, generating revenue for the region.

Bewl Water is also the home of Bewl Bridge Rowing Club and Bewl Canoe Club, volunteer-run Community Access Sport Clubs that have been operating at Bewl Water since the 1970s. Both Clubs are successful and growing, with the Rowing Club being amongst the largest regional rowing clubs in England. During the meeting, concerns were raised about the urgent need for improved facilities for both clubs, as they have outgrown their minimal facilities at Bewl.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Bewl Water is a superb facility for residents of East Sussex and Kent in providing water activities. I was pleased to meet with members of the rowing club and Wealden District councillors to discuss the needs for improved facilities and I look forward to a positive working relationship to ensure that Bewl Water continues to be a fantastic local asset and a unique rowing facility in the Southeast.”
